What to do in Toledo?
We have selected Toledo’s main attractions to help with your itinerary of 1 or more days.
What to do in 1 day in Toledo?
Toledo is known for being one of the main bus stops in Madrid . In fact, it is very close, just 80km from the capital.
All the main attractions can be explored on foot, so I suggest you wear very comfortable shoes.
Start your tour at Puerta de Bisagra , of Muslim origin and considered one of the main entrances to the city. From there, walk to Puerta del Sol to access Toledo’s historic center.
The main square in the center is Zocodover , which holds a lot of history and is surrounded by many little shops and restaurants. From here, you can access one of Toledo’s main attractions – El Alcazar . The fortified palace is at the highest point in the city. The building today houses the Army Museum.
Add to your itinerary the Church of São Tomé , which despite being very small is beautiful inside, and the Sinagoga del Transito , which is considered the most beautiful in Toledo and is in excellent condition.
Even if you don’t have time to go in and visit calmly, it’s worth the climb to enjoy the architecture of the place and, especially, the view. In my opinion, the best images of Toledo are those from above, which provide a broader view of the city. Also include Toledo Cathedral on this day, the ideal is to take a guided tour to learn more about its history.
Finish your itinerary of what to do in Toledo at the San Martin Bridge , all in medieval style and which makes for great photos. An alternative to getting to know the city well is to take a walking tour of the monuments .
What to do in 2 days in Toledo
With another day and a little more calm, you can enjoy more of the crafts in Zocodover square and El Alcazar by visiting the museum. If you can choose, opt for sunset time.
On the second day, consider visiting the Santa Maria de la Blanca Synagogue , which has been completely restored and is one of the greatest symbols of the Jewish colony in the city.
How many days are enough in Toledo
It depends ! The number of days takes into account each person’s profile. Personally, I prefer to go places more calmly, without rushing. Therefore, I believe that two days are enough, as I select the places that I prefer to enter or visit for longer.
In any case, if Toledo fits into your itinerary just for a day trip, don’t miss it. The city is really charming and unmissable.
What you can’t miss in Toledo
The streets in the center ! The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, without a doubt, the most interesting thing is to contemplate the architecture of the buildings and the structure of the city, which is different from the traditional one. There are mixes of styles with various influences everywhere.
What to do at night in Toledo?
For those who think there will be nothing to do, you are wrong! Amazingly, Toledo’s nightlife is super lively, but with tranquility and safety.
Of course, during the day the streets will be much more crowded, with tourists coming and going, as most visitors end up making a round trip.
There are pubs, nightclubs, bars and many restaurants. The Círculo de Arte Toledo , for example, is a space for concerts, shows and even a nightclub. It is located in San Vicente square, very close to Zocodover square, and the agenda is available on the website for consultation.
La Mona Bar and Rinconcito Tap Station are also super central and are more focused on “snacks” and beer.
For those who enjoy going out to dinner, some restaurants offer very beautiful views, which makes it worth arriving before dark. This is the case at Restaurante Hierbabuena , which has an impeccable atmosphere and the option of a tasting menu.
The La Abadia restaurant is also an excellent option. In fact, it’s a craft brewery that even serves breakfast. The environment has a medieval style and is located in San Nicolas square.
What to do in Toledo in winter?
Temperatures can reach 5°C, cold for most of us . The days are shorter and it rains a little more than at other times, but nothing that affects the trip. The main attractions will be operating normally, but without being full of tourists.
What to do in Toledo in the summer?
European summer is synonymous with events! And in Toledo it would be no different.
The city has shows, exhibitions, parks, etc. Here, “ El Sueno de Toledo ” takes place in the Puy du Fou park , originally from France. It’s a nighttime show that mixes show, history, acting and even acrobatics. Prices start at €37 and there are some combo options with the park and/or restaurant.
What to do besides the obvious in Toledo?
Toledo is located in a region of Spain called Castilla-La Mancha, one of the largest wine producers in the world . There are around 600 bodegas in this region.
The closest to the city center are: Bodegas Pinto and Viñedos Cigarral Santa María, which are places for wine tasting.
An alternative is to take a tour of Toledo including the wineries , these tours leave from Madrid and cover the entire day of sightseeing in the city.
